About Us

Stacey McCluskey has been an outdoor educator, public school teacher, writer, and Maine guide for more than 20 years. Her approach with people of all ages is to meet them where they are. “Learning and recreating outside can be what we want it to be: an adventure, a place to relax, a place to discover, a place to play, a place to challenge us, and a place to soothe us.”

My Mission

My mission is to help teachers become comfortable with outdoor learning so that students of all ages spend time outside every day in addition to recess.

Some of the outdoor learning experiences Stacey has created and led…

  • Trips with middle and elementary students to places including vernal pools, wetlands, river gorges, woods, meadows, ponds, mountains, pegmatites, and waterfalls.

  • Participation with students in community science projects such as “Stream Explorers.”

  • She has worked with Maine Huts and Trails to offer naturalist and LNT activities to the Overland Group.

  • Founded and operated Flagstaff Daycamp for Girls

  • Founded and operated Young Naturalist Camp for kids in grades 2-5.

  • Overnight trips with 50 eighth-grade students to the Flagstaff Hut, part of the Maine Huts and Trails

  • Flyfishing school for women

  • Fished the Kennebec River with middle school students

  • Snowshoed and cross-country skied miles with students in grades 4-8

  • Paddled many rivers, ponds, and lakes and hiked mountains with people of all ages

  • And countless outdoor lessons, games, and explorations all over the walkable lands surrounding the schools in which she has worked.
